Man accused of setting fire to woman to remain in custody

The woman allegedly suffered severe burns at this Bracken Ridge home.

A man charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting fire to a woman in a home north of Brisbane will remain in custody.

Police say the 27-year-old from Wavell Heights doused the woman in an accelerant and set her on fire at the home on Aldea Circuit in Bracken Ridge on Tuesday morning.

The 28-year-old woman was taken to hospital with burns to her arms and chest, and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police said the man and woman were known to each other.

The man faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning where his lawyers made no application for bail.

The man was visibly upset in the courtroom and was crying.

His lawyer Corey Cullen said his client was suffering from schizophrenia, and requested the case be transferred to the Mental Health Court.

The case was adjourned until the next hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 3.
