A 36-year-old man was arrested in Surat Thani province early on Friday morning for the alleged repeated rape of his teenage daughter over four years, and forcing her to take drugs.
Police executed a court warrant in arresting the man, identified only as Jom, at his house in Wipawadi district about 12.15am. He was taken to Lang Suan police station in Chumphon province for interrogation.
According to media reports, the girl's 50-year-old grandmother, named only as Choi, earlier complained to Lang Suan police that the man had been raping her granddaughter since she was 10 years old. She had found the girl's notes, which gave dates of the abuse and wrote of her wish to stay with the grandmother and pursue her studies.
"I was raped by dad for the first time on..., the second time on ..., the third time on... I would like to study.
"...when he is with me, he usually forces me and hits me. I want freedom. Dad threatens to kill my family. I sympathise with my grandma," read the notes Mrs Choi presented to police.
"When I lived with my grandparents, dad never took care of me. Dad just became interested in me when I grew up. I wanted to be with grandma. I don't want to stay with dad. If dad is not arrested, he will approach me again. I want to study."
Mrs Choi said her daughter had lived with the man over a decade ago. When she was three months pregnant, Jom left and went to another province, where he moved in with another woman. Her daughter found a new husband and left her newborn daughter the grandparents.
When the girl was two years old, Jom started visiting her a few times a year. In 2014, when the girl was 10, Jom arrived stoned on drugs and took the girl away. The grandmother said she allowed this because the man was her father.
After the girl started secondary school she had an affair with a boy. The grandmother told Jom about it. Jom beat and scolded the girl and kept her in his house for about two weeks, without allowing her contact with anyone else.
Recently, the grandmother found the girl's notes. The latest noted rape was on Oct 2017, when she was aged 13 years. The grandmother also told police that Jom forced the girl to take crystal methamphetamine as a sex stimulant, even though she resisted.
Lang Suan police questioned the grandmother and the girl, who was also given a medical examination, and then applied for an arrest warrant at Lang Suan Court on Thursday.
