Man accused of ram raiding Sneinton phone shop

A man fell to the floor in court when refused bail on a charge of taking part in a ram raid on a Sneinton phone shop on Monday.

Tesfa Richards, 36, was brought before city magistrates and entered no plea to the charge which alleges that "at Sneinton jointly with others he entered Phone Surgeons, stealing items worth between £15,000 and £20,000."

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, described it as "an old-fashioned ram raid" and said that the shop repair bill reached £30,000.

Jameel Malik, defending, represented Richards who gave his home address at Skipton Circus.

Magistrate Larissa Parkinson, who sat with another JP, said: "This must go to the crown court."

Richards was remanded in custody and told the next hearing would be at Nottingham Crown Court on May 1.

When informed that he would not be freed on bail, Richards fell headlong in the dock.

After the case was adjourned, extra security guards arrived to remove him.
