Man accused of promoting prostitution of a minor after undercover sting

Jan. 11--A west suburban Broadview man accused of sexually trafficking a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing months ago is expected in court Sunday, authorities said.

James R. Taylor, 26, has been charged with involuntary sexual servitude of a minor, promoting prostitution of a minor and trafficking for benefits, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

Taylor appeared at the Leighton Criminal Court Building for a bond hearing Sunday afternoon where he was held in lieu of $250,000 bail, according to court records.

Taylor was arrested Friday in the western suburb during an undercover operation as members of the vice unit responded to a "female escort" advertisement found on Backpage.com's adult section, according to the sheriff's office.

Undercover officers talked with the girl on the phone, and they arranged a "date" at a hotel on Roosevelt Road. When the officer entered the room, the girl offered to perform sex acts for money, and the officer identified himself as a police officer.

As officers questioned the 16-year-old girl, Taylor knocked on the door and tried to come in.

He and the girl, who had been reported missing several months ago, were taken into custody.

Investigators learned Taylor had been sexually trafficking the victim and keeping the money she earned from the prostitution, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities offered the 16-year-old supportive services, and Taylor was charged Saturday.
