Man accused of posing as cop and stealing money from group

A man is due to appear in court accused of posing as a police officer and stealing money of an unwitting group of people at a bus-stop.

Connor Webb, 21, is alleged to have pocketed a quantity of cash after the incident in New Street, Halsall, on June 27.

Webb, of Boyer Avenue in Maghull, is charged with impersonating an officer and a charge of theft.

A statement from Lancashire Police said: "Police launched an investigation after it was reported a man had approached a group of people at a bus stop in New Street on June 27.

"It was alleged the man identified himself as an officer and searched the group, taking a quantity of cash.

"Following extensive enquiries a man was arrested in connection with the incident."

Webb has been released on bail and is set to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on September 3.
