Man accused of pointing weapon at officers near police station

Dec. 30--A South Side man has been charged after police said he pulled a weapon on them on the city's Far South Side.

Officers were alerted by witnesses about 7:15 a.m. about a man who had pointed a weapon at them in the 700 block of East 111th Street near the Chicago Police Department Fifth District station, police said in a release Monday evening.

Officers found the man inside of a vehicle holding a weapon in his hand. The man then pointed the weapon at the officers, said police.

The officers recovered the weapon and took the man, later identified as Clyde Freeman, into police custody. Police have not said what type of weapon the man allegedly had.

Freeman, 29, of the 7500 block of South Ridgeland Avenue was charged Monday with three counts of aggravated assault with a weapon to a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a loaded weapon and having no valid gun card, said police.

According to public records, Freeman was sentenced to two years probation that he completed on a 2005 drug conviction. Recently, he had pleaded guilty in a drug case and was given credit for time served in Cook County Jail.

Freeman was scheduled to appear Tuesday at Central Bond Court.
