Man accused of murdering cheerleader remanded in custody

Breeana Robinson, 21, fell to her death from a Gold Coast balcony in 2013.

A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, who fell to her death from an 11th storey balcony at Southport on the Gold Coast in 2013, has appeared in court.

Jayden Moorea, who legally changed his name from Dan Shearin, was charged yesterday with the murder of 21-year-old Breeana Robinson, a Titans cheerleader.

He was also charged with one count each of damaging evidence with intent, and attempted fraud.

The 45-year-old appeared briefly in the Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday morning, dressed in shorts and a white top.

Magistrate John Costanzo granted police a forensic application and remanded Mr Moorea in custody.

Outside court his lawyer Chris Hannay said Mr Moorea would apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

"He is a bit down, as expected," Mr Hannay said.

"He hasn't been in this position before

"All I ask is he be given a fair go."

Five of Ms Robinson's family members were in court, carrying red roses and a picture of her.

Her aunt Janine Mackney said outside court they would follow the legal process all the way through.

"It is nice to be here; he saw us, so he felt the vibe I am sure," she said.
