A man who allegedly killed a 9-year-old girl with chloroform as he tried to rape her has been found dead in jail.
Jeffery Beagley, 34, of Grand Junction, Colorado, was found unconscious in his cell in Mesa County on Monday and later died in hospital.
Police have not indicated the cause of death but an autopsy is still pending toxicology results, reports Fox10 .
Beagley was awaiting charges of first-degree murder, reckless manslaughter, attempted sex assault and child abuse.
Police had been investigating Beagley since on November 9 when the girl was found dead at the home she shared with her mother, sister and Beagley.

Her name and relationship to Beagley have not yet been released.
Investigators say Begley had a bottle of chloroform delivered to his address the day before the girl died.
They also found a rag and the 100-millimeter bottle inside a shed in the home, according to reports
The MailOnline reported how blankets and pillows, heaters, a computer monitor, laptop, video camera, masks, balloons, sex toys and lubricants were all found in the shed.
Some of the blankets had drops of blood on them.
Chloroform is a powerful chemical that can be used to incapacitate victims and is available to purchase online.
Beagley, who was arrested on Dec 14 and had been remanded in custody until his court date on December 31.
He faced additional charges for thousands of pornographic images and videos investigators found on his cellphone and computers.
He had not entered a plea to the charges.
