Man accused of entering triple J studio, kissing on-air radio presenter

A man is in custody after being charged with gaining unlawful entry to the ABC Sydney studios and assaulting a triple J presenter while she was on air.

It is believed Kieren Gallagher, 31, from Wollongong, entered the Ultimo centre on September 5 by tailgating an employee through security before making his way through the building to the studios of the youth network.

Police said he then gained entry into the live studio and managed to grab and kiss presenter Genevieve Fricker, who was on air.

CCTV footage allegedly shows Gallagher walking down a corridor.

He was arrested by police early this morning near Central Station and was taken to Day St police station.

He was charged with stalk/intimidate with the intent to cause fear, trespass and common assault and appeared briefly at Central Local Court.

Court documents show he allegedly breached bail conditions relating to alleged drug possession and affray offences from September 4 at Sutherland train station.

The matter has been adjourned while he undergoes a mental health assessment.

ABC tightens security

In an email to staff, director of news Gaven Morris said more security guards were on site since the incident.

"There may be increased checks on IDs, security attention at all building entry points and escalated physical security improvement works," the email read.

"We are supporting our colleagues directly affected by this incident."

Mr Morris said the ABC had recently invested in increased security, however "the success of new systems and infrastructure is always dependent on our behaviour".

"The ABC is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all staff and visitors but it is very much a team effort requiring the participation of all staff to be effective."
