Man accused of dousing another man with fuel, setting him alight

David Henwood has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

A 46-year-old man has been charged after a man was allegedly doused with petrol and set alight at a home in central-west New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the house fire in Wellington yesterday afternoon.

A 52-year-old man was airlifted to Concord Hospital in a critical condition.

This morning, David Henwood appeared before Dubbo Local Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

His application for bail was denied.

Orana Mid-Western Police District commander Superintendent Peter McKenna said the house in Glasson Street was on fire when police arrived.

"We will allege a 46-year-old man has attended those premises with accelerant, he has placed accelerant throughout those premises, and we will allege he has doused a 52-year-old man with that accelerant," Superintendent McKenna said.

"He's then [alleged to have] set fire to those premises and to that man."

Superintendent McKenna said the victim had burns to more than 60 per cent of his body after the incident.

"He's in the burns unit. He's in a critical condition," Superintendent McKenna said.

He said a crime scene had been set up at the Wellington residence and the accused was treated for burns to his hand.

Police are treating it as a domestic incident.

The ABC understands the two men are related.

As investigations continue, anyone with information about the incident has been urged to come forward.
