A man charged with five counts of child neglect has appeared in an Adelaide court as authorities have taken five young children into state care.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man and 25-year-old woman on Wednesday after detectives and officers of the Department of Child Protection inspected a house at suburban Hillcrest.
Authorities had concerns for the children, aged between two months and nine years, who lived at the property.
There was no bail application when the man faced the Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody to appear again in March.
A woman who is charged with criminal neglect is on police bail and due to face court in January.
