A man accused of attempting to rape a woman at a Hampstead cinema has appeared in court.

Cyrille Moreau, 67, is accused of attempting to have sex without consent with a woman in her 30s at the Vue cinema on Finchley Road.

He has been charged with attempted rape over the alleged incident, which happened at around 3.45pm on June 11.

Moreau, of Ainger Road in Primrose Hill, North London, was held in custody by police after being charged.

He appeared at Highbury Corner magistrates court on Wednesday.

Police said Moreau was arrested at 5.30pm on Monday in connection with the incident, following a media appeal.

The accused man did not enter a plea to the charge of attempted rape during his first court appearance.

According to the charge, it is alleged he “intentionally attempted to penetrate the vagina of a woman with your penis, when she did not consent and you did not reasonably believe that she was consenting.”

Moreau is next due in the dock on July 17 at Wood Green crown court.
