Man accidentally shoots UPS delivery driver with crossbow

A delivery driver has been shot with a wayward crossbow bolt.

The unnamed United Parcel Service (UPS) driver was travelling through Autauga County, Alabama, when the bolt flew into the cab of his truck and became lodged in the right side of his chest.

He was later taken to hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ronald Gantt, aged 55, has since been charged with assault.

Mr Gantt said he was shooting at practice targets in his front yard at the time, but overshot and hit the driver.

Realising his mistake, Mr Gantt stayed with the driver until an ambulance arrived.

Although investigators have labelled the episode an accident, the shooter is still being charged with assault due to the irresponsible nature of his actions.

The driver returned to work the day after the accident.
