Man accidentally drives car into pond, smokes pipe while waiting for emergency services

An elderly man who accidentally drove his car into a pond calmly smoked a pipe as his car filled up with water.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his eighties, was rescued by West Midland Ambulance Service after they were called to the scene Loxley at around 2.50pm on Tuesday.

He is believed to have ended up in the water after attempting to go fishing nearby.

An advanced community paramedic, a paramedic area support officer, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and an ambulance crew attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the ambulance crew said: “After his car ended up in the water, he smoked his pipe and chatted to the farmer who went into the lake in his waders.”

Firefighters fished the man out his car and carried him back onto land, where he was assessed by ambulance personnel to ensure he was not hurt. He was later driven home in the ambulance.
