Police have launched a hate crime investigation after a man tried to tear a woman’s headscarf from her head on the DLR in east London.

Officers have now launched a CCTV appeal over the incident just after 9pm on January 20 as the train was approaching Poplar station.

The victim was standing by the train doors when she was approached by a man who made racial slurs about her headscarf, said police.

A little while later, he grabbed her headscarf and tried to pull it off before ripping her rucksack off her back, causing the strap to tear.

British Transport Police believe the man in the CCTV images could have information which may help them with their investigation.
