A REPORT will be prepared for the coroner after a fatal crash on the Pacific Highway at Port Stephens.
Emergency services were called to the Myall Way intersection at Tea Gardens about 4.50pm on Monday after a white Suzuki Jimmy and a Hino rigid tabletop collided.
Police confirmed the Suzuki's driver, a 90-year-old man, died at the scene.
The truck's driver, 24, was not injured. He underwent a roadside breath test that returned a negative result.
He was subsequently taken to Newcastle's Mater hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
His vehicle had been transporting two steers at the time. Both animals escaped injury in the crash.
Port Stephens-Hunter police are investigating and closed a southbound lane of the highway as well as a right-hand turning lane for northbound traffic into Myall Way.
The death is the second in as many days in the Hunter after an unidentified driver died when their vehicle struck a tree at Rothbury early on Sunday morning.
