Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says that fire crews from Hyde and Stretford were sent out to the scene, along with the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to release an 89-year-old man from a car - the only vehicle involved in the collision.

He was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Just after 1.00pm this afternoon, September 4 2021, two fire engines from Hyde and Stretford and the technical response unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne fire stations attended a road traffic collision involving one car on Stockport Road, Hyde.

"Firefighters secured the vehicle with a winch and extricated one casualty from the car using road traffic collision equipment, rope rescue kit and a stretcher.

"The casualty has been taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

"Fire crews were on scene for approximately one hour and 30 minutes."

Greater Manchester Police and NWAS have been approached for comment.
