Man, 85, dies in crash involving car and pedestrian in Mountheaton, Co Offaly

An 85-year-old man was killed in a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a car in Co Offaly on Thursday.

The tragic accident took place in the Mountheaton area at approximately 6pm.

The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the mortuary at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for a post-mortem examination.

The male driver of the car was uninjured in the collision.

The Roscrea/Shinrone road (R491) was closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators with local diversions in place on Thursday evening and was expected to re-open by 11pm on Thursday night.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding this incident, particularly any road users with camera footage who were travelling the Roscrea/Shinrone road between 5.30pm and 6pm on January 2, 2020, to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 916 9710, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
