Man, 83, pulled from canal after falling down embankment in Bury

An elderly man was pulled from a canal after falling down an embankment in Bury.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were all sent to the scene just off Wellington Street at 4.30pm on Wednesday, April 6.

An 83-year-old man had to be pulled from the water using rope rescue equipment, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Three hazardous area response teams, two rapid response vehicles, a land ambulance, fire crews and police vehicles were also sent.

The man was later taken to North Manchester General Hospital.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 16:44 to patient who had fallen and was trapped on an embankment in Wellington Street, Bury.

“We sent two RRVs, a land ambulance and three HART vehicles to the patient who was male in 80s.

“Police and fire informed.

“The patient was taken to North Manchester General Hospital.”
