An elderly man is fighting for his life this evening after being stabbed in his home near Dundalk earlier today.
The victim, believed to be in his 80s, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with serious injuries following a fight with another man.
Gardaí are investigating the alleged assault, which occurred at his home on Sandy Lane in the Blackrock area of Dundalk this afternoon at approximately 2:50pm.
A technical and forensic examination of the scene is underway.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, according to Gardai.
A garda spokesman said: "Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station 042-9388400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
