A man who died in a tragic road crash last night has been named locally as Tommy Farrell.
Mr Farrell, 77, was a native of Edenderry in Co Offaly but had been living in Rooaunmore in Co Galway.
He passed away following a collision between a jeep and car on the N63 road at approximately 5pm on Friday at Rooaunmore in Claregalway.
Mr Farrell was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: "A post mortem is due to take place at a later date. No further injuries were reported.
"Forensic Collision Investigators attended the scene. The road has since re-opened."
Mr Farrell was predeceased by his wife Ann and survived by his three daughters, Mary, Lucy, Jacinta and sons Padraic and Michael, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters Liz, Kathleen and Maura, brothers Jimmy, Michael and Kevin, in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
He will lie in repose at Síoraíocht in the grounds of the Church of the Assumption and St James, Claregalway on Monday, September 9, from 5pm with removal to the Church of the Assumption and St James, Claregalway till 7pm.
Mr Farrell's Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 10, at 11am with burial in Claregalway Cemetery.
