Man, 74, dies in tragic New Year's Day electric scooter collision

A man in his 70s has died in a tragic New Year’s Day collision involving an electric scooter.

The 74-year-old man was reportedly riding an electric scooter down the road in Greater Manchester when he collided with two parked cars.

Police were called to Springfield Road in Droylsden, Tameside at around 1.40pm on Saturday (January 1).

Emergency services attended and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, reports the Manchester Evening News.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed for any information on the incident.

Sergeant Marie Eldred, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family as they come to terms with this incredibly tragic loss.

"This collision happened in the middle of the day so we are hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who may have dash cam or CCTV footage."

Any information can be reported to the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 2518 of 01/01/22.

Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
