A 73-year-old man has died in a shed fire in Adelaide.

Thirteen firefighters responded to the blaze, at Modbury Heights in the city's northeast, shortly after 6.30am on Sunday.

The fire crew arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a shed that had been converted into a granny flat. They extinguished the fire within 25 minutes.

An initial report provided by South Australian emergency services said there were "no reported injuries" but an hour later police released a statement confirming a body had been found during a search of the burnt out shed.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

An emergency services spokesperson said the fire had caused up to $20,000 in damage to the granny flat and had spread to a neighbouring shed to which it caused limited damage.
