Man, 72, who died after being hit by a lorry in Tameside is named

A 72-year-old man who died after being hit by a lorry in Ashton-under-Lyne has been named as Kenneth Hartley.

The crash happened on Manchester Road just before 2pm last Thursday (October 14).

Police said they were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

Emergency services attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Hartley was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A file in relation to his death has been passed to the coroner at Stockport Coroners Court, it has been confirmed.

An inquest into Mr Hartley's death will open at a later date.

Police said the lorry failed to stop but was later located.

The driver of another lorry - not involved in the collision - remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries.

Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

PS Phil Shaw, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly died.

"Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this time.

"This collision happened in the middle of the day and I am hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who can assist us with our enquiries.

"If you were in the area at the time and witnessed this collision or have any dashcam footage, please do not hesitate to contact police."
