Man, 72, taken to hospital after Raymond Terrace home invasion

A RAYMOND Terrace man, 72, has been injured in a home invasion under investigation, police say.

Detectives are examining the incident after the man was at home in Brown Street about 9.55pm on Saturday when two men approached the front door.

Police said the elderly man became aware of two people inside the house a short time later before they threatened and assaulted him.

The pair stole property and fled the scene, police said.

Port Stephens-Hunter police attended a short time later. The 72-year-old was taken to the John Hunter Hospital with injuries to his face and arms.

Police said it was unknown whether the two people inside the property were the same pair that approached the front door.

Investigators are also exploring whether the callous act may be linked to an earlier robbery at the property on September 14.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Raymond Terrace Police on 4983 7599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
