
A man was struck and killed by a motorist Saturday afternoon in Avalon Park on the South Side.
The man, 72, was struck by a vehicle in the road around 1:50 p.m. in the 8200 block of South Stony Island Avenue, according to Chicago police.
The motorist hit his breaks to avoid a car in front of him and swerved into the right lane, hitting the man, police said.
The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead. His name hasn’t been released.
The driver was issued citations for failing to reduce speed, hitting a pedestrian and driving without insurance, police said.
