A man was fatally shot Wednesday in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

The 72-year-old entered an auto dealership about 3 p.m. to demand his money from a man who then allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a shot during a dispute, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened at Dunmore Auto Sales, 7320 S. Stony Island Ave., according to a police source.

The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 8:06 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was identified as James Kelley, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Officers arrested a suspect shortly after the shooting, police said. No charges have been filed.

Area One detectives are investigating.
