Bail was denied Saturday for a 71-year-old man accused of shooting his girlfriend last week in Gresham on the South Side.
Tommy Hogan appeared for a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on a charge of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting and was denied bail by Judge David Navarro.
About 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Hogan called Chicago police to report that a woman had been shot in the 7800 block of South Throop Street, Cook County prosecutors said.
Officers found the 52-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her chest on a concrete stoop outside of a home she shared with Hogan, prosecutors said.
She told the officers that Hogan had shot her, and later, Hogan came outside in a blood-spattered white T-shirt and admitted to the shooting, prosecutors said.
Police searched the home and found a .32 derringer-style pistol in the back bedroom with a misfired round inside the chamber, prosecutors said.
The woman was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said, but was expected to survive.
The bullet, which was the same caliber as the round found in the gun at their home, struck her lung, liver and kidney before lodging into her spine, prosecutors said.
Hogan also faces charges of aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery, authorities said.
He was scheduled to appear in court again Monday.
