A man who was found with serious injuries in Ayr this lunchtime has died, police have confirmed.
The 71-year-old was discovered in the town's River Street shortly before 12noon.
Despite a large-scale emergency response, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
An air ambulance was scrambled to land at Ayr Racecourse as part of the response, but the pensioner could not be saved.
Police closed the road while investgations were carried out and have confirmed this afternoon the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.50am, officers were called after a person was found with serious injuries on River Street, Ayr.

“Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is not currently believed to be suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
