Man, 70s, dies in Cork crash after collision with parked car on busy city street

A man in his 70s has died following a crash in Cork on Monday afternoon.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene at Friar Street in the city at around 1.20pm.

They were responding to reports that a car had collided with another parked vehicle before it came to a stop.

The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

It is understood the motorist became ill and required urgent medical attention when the incident occurred.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "At approximately 1.20pm Gardaí attended at Friar Street, Cork City following reports of a car colliding with a parked car before coming to a stop.

"The driver of the car, a male in his 70s, was taken from the scene to CUH."
