Man, 70s, dies after his car collides with pole in Fermoy, Co Cork

An elderly man lost his life in a road accident on Wednesday in Cork.

The driver, in his 70s, was the only person in the car when it hit a pole on the Mill Road in Fermoy.

Gardai are asking anyone with information to come forward.

They said: "Gardaí in Fermoy are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Mill Road, Fermoy, Co. Cork at approximately 2.10pm, May 1.

"A man in his 70s (sole occupant of the car) was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a pole.

"He was pronounced dead at scene and his body has been taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

"The road was closed to facilitate a Garda forensic examination but has since reopened.

"Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this collision to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
