Man, 70, left with serious injuries after crashing into tree

A 70-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a tree this morning.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Liverpool Road and Welwyn Avenue in Birkdale at around 8.45am after reports of a car colliding with a tree.

Once emergency services arrived they were forced to cut a man out of his car.

Once the man was freed from his car he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

It has been confirmed the man has seriously injured his shoulder but his condition is not life threatening.

Road closures were in place on Liverpool Road between Saint Thomas Moore Drive and Oakwood Avenue while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police remain at the scene but the road has now reopened.
