Sadly, his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital on Thursday October 21.

A post-mortem will be held today which should provide more information about Mr Williams Senior's cause of death.

A huge emergency services presence was seen at the Marina following the incident on October 15 and police confirmed that a man in his 40s was arrested nearby on suspicion of assault.

Police confirmed today that he remains on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives established a large cordoned area that surrounded The Yacht Club restaurant, its car park and a section of pavement along South Ferry Quay.

Police turned away Yacht Club customers, with potential witnesses said to have been kept inside the establishment while enquiries were launched.

At the time, a force spokesperson said: "Officers were contacted at 8.05pm following reports a man in his 70s had been assaulted in the area of Coburg Wharf/ Liverpool Marina.

"The man in his 70s has been taken to hospital in a serious condition."

Forensics officers were in attendance throughout the night of October 15, though the police cordon had been relaxed by Saturday morning.
