A 70-year-old man who allegedly transported his dead partner's naked body in a wheelbarrow and then buried her in a shallow grave on his property has fronted Hobart's Magistrates Court this morning.

Police allege Olaf Vennik buried his partner Soo Lan Chuah on his Cranbrook property on Tasmania's East Coast after she died in August 2020.

He is not charged with anything to do with her death.

Police claim he "dragged" her body onto a modified wheelbarrow, stripped her naked, placed her in a shallow unmarked hole and covered her with sand.

They also allege Mr Vennik also failed to report her death.

In November 2020, police received a tip-off and conducted a two-day search of the rural property where they found a grave containing her body.

He was charged with interfering with human remains, unlawfully disposing of human remains, neglecting to bury, neglecting duty as to burial and failure to report death.

Mr Vennik appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Rob Wester in court and asked for an adjournment in order to seek legal advice.

He has yet to enter a plea and will return in May.
