A 67-year-old man was arrested following a late night assault outside a pub.
A man in his 50s was reportedly assaulted by two men outside the Springfield Hotel in St Helens at around 12.45am on July 16. The victim was left with head injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.
Police confirmed the two men left the scene in a taxi. A 67-year-old man was arrested the same day and has since been released pending further enquiries.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "A man was arrested following an assault outside a pub in St Helens in the early hours of Saturday morning, 16 July.
"At around 12.45am it was reported a man in his 50s had been assaulted by two men outside the Springfield Hotel in Thatto Heath and suffered a head injury. It was reported the men left the scene in a taxi.
"The victim is in hospital in a serious but stable condition. A 67-year-old man from Thatto Heath was arrested on Saturday and has been released pending further enquiries. CCTV and witness enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
