A 66-year-old man was shot and wounded during a robbery Thursday morning in the South Shore neighborhood, several blocks away from where a young woman was fatally shot earlier that morning.
He was in an alley about 11:30 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Essex Avenue when a gunman approached him and demanded his valuables, Chicago police said.
The gunman took his property and then fired shots, striking him in the buttocks, police said.
The 66-year-old was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
Earlier Thursday, a 22-year-old woman was shot dead nearby in the 7000 block of South Clyde Avenue. Police said she was arguing with someone who fired shots from inside a vehicle.
No arrests have been reported in either shooting.
