Man, 66, punched unconscious and left with broken hip and jaw in brutal petrol station attack

A 66-year-old man was left with a broken hip and jaw after a brutal attack at a petrol station in north Manchester.

The victim was painting a disabled ramp at the Esso KP Garage on Victoria Avenue in Blackley when the suspect jumped over the barrier and walked onto the wet paint, police said. He questioned what the man - who was aged around 19 to 20 - was doing, before he was then punched in the face.

He was left unconscious on the floor and suffered a broken hip and jaw. Police said the suspect was a white man, who was around 5ft 10in tall.

He was wearing a baseball cap under a hood with dark clothing at the time of the terrifying attack. He was also driving a white or silver VW Polo or Golf, officers added.

Anyone who witnessed the incident - which happened at around 8.45pm on Saturday, October 22 - is now being urged to come forward. Police particularly want to speak to a woman called Lynn, who helped the victim before paramedics arrived on the scene.

Police Constable Martin Mcguffie said, "This is a serious assault where after conducting initial enquiries we are keen to speak to the public who may have seen this incident happen. We are particularly keen to speak to someone who assisted the victim after the assault before emergency services arrived to assist, who we believe goes by the name of Lynn - if this is you, please get in touch so we can speak to you about the incident."

Any details should be passed onto GMP by calling 101 quoting 1058 of 01/11/2022 or alternatively anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
