Man, 65, seriously injured in hit-and-run smash in Mossley

A 65-year-old man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision, police have revealed.

No arrests have been made and officers are hunting a driver who left the scene in the aftermath.

The smash led to the closure of a main route through Mossley in Tameside for a number of hours last night, Monday.

Details from Greater Manchester Police have only just emerged.

Police said a silver Vauxhall Corsa collided with an unoccupied parked car then hit the pedestrian, who was walking at the time.

It's understood Manchester Road was closed between Tame Valley Close and Roughtown Road in both directions for investigation work.

The man, who hasn't been named, was taken to hospital with injuries described by GMP as 'serious'.

He's said to be in a stable condition.

The driver, police said, failed to stop at the scene.

It's understood the car had been stopped driving erratically beforehand.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 7.20pm on Monday, police were called to reports of a collision between two cars and a pedestrian on Manchester Road in Mossley.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

No other details have been revealed.
