Man, 65, killed in accident involving delivery van near Bolton town centre

A man has died following a serious accident in Bolton this morning.

Emergency services were called to a backstreet just off Bradford Street just before 9.45am on Saturday (November 28).

The incident involved a large delivery wagon and a pedestrian.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the wagon remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Road closures were put in place on Castle Street between Bradford Street and Chadwick Street and drivers were asked to find alternative routes.

It is also believed an air ambulance landed nearby the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing, a spokesman for GMP said.

Police Inspector Danny Byrne, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This collision has tragically resulted in a man losing his life and specialist officers will continue to support his family as they attempt to process what has happened.

"Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends as our enquiries continue and we are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact our team.

"If you have any dash-cam or CCTV footage that could aid our investigation, please get in touch as soon as possible so we can provide the man's family with some answers."

Anyone with information should call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 894 of 28/11/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
