Man, 65, dies after crash near Mumbles, Swansea

A man has died following a crash near Mumbles.

Emergency services were called to the incident at the junction of Mayals Road and Fairwood Road shortly before 10.45am on February 4.

The vehicle involved was a blue Toyota Yaris, but despite efforts of emergency services and members of the public, the 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the devastated family of the deceased, who lived locally, are being supported by a specially trained officers.

Emergency nurse Leigh Evans, who stopped to assist emergency services, said: “Fire crews at the scene were doing a fantastic job but I just had to assist their heroic efforts until further paramedic help arrived."

South Wales Police is appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or its aftermath, or who witnessed the manner in which the vehicle was being driven prior to the collision, or anyone who may have any video footage of the incident to make contact.

A force spokesman added: “We are also keen to speak to a female motorist who was wearing a brown cost and possibly driving a small red car, and a man who both helped to get the driver out of the car and began CPR, but left the location before the arrival of a police officer”.

Mayals Road was closed neat its junction with Fairwood Road for several hours to allow officers to conduct the necessary enquiries and the local community is thanked for its patience and understanding at this time.
