Man, 64, tried to run away from police after being caught with prostitute

A man must pay £215 after walking arm-in-arm with a sex worker up Forest Road.

Plain clothes police officers followed and saw the couple go into the garden of a house, a court heard.

The court was told the woman was seen performing a sex act on the man in the front garden.

The man was later identified as Alexander Bannon, 64, of Woodthorpe Court, Chestnut Walk, Woodthorpe, the city's magistrates' court heard.

"Mr Bannon complied with the officers. However he suddenly swung his right arm to the officers and attempted to run away. Officers managed to get hold of Mr Bannon and he was taken into custody," said Ben Payne, prosecuting.

A £100 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £30 government surcharge were ordered from Bannon, who was said to receive incapacity benefits. He pleaded guilty by letter to soliciting for sexual services in public on January 12.

In court, the woman was described as "a known sex worker". She said Bannon had paid her £30.
