The incident happened outside a flat within East Road car park, across from Aldi, around 1.30pm on Monday, June 1.

The victim asked a woman to move her car, a purple Skoda, which was blocking a driveway, before he was approached by a man who punched him.

The 64-year-old was taken to Crosshouse Hospital with a broken hip.

The only description for the suspect is he appeared to be in his fifties.

Detective Sergeant Peter Sweeney, of Saltcoats CID, said: "We're appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact us.

"Similarly anyone who was travelling along East Road around 1.30pm on Monday and has dash cam footage, please contact us."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1851 of 1 June or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
