Man, 64, dies in Milton house fire as crew battle late night blaze

A 64-year-old man has tragically died in a house fire in the Milton area of Glasgow.

The blaze broke out just after midnight in the early hours of this morning on Cathay Street.

Fire crews rushed to the scene at 12.22pm, with four appliances mobilised. Police Scotland were alerted at around 1.10am. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews remain at the scene this morning.

Officers have confirmed the death of the man, and said a joint investigation has been launched.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A 64-year-old man has died following a house fire in Cathay Street, Glasgow. Police were called around 1.10am on Tuesday, 23 February, 2021. A joint investigation involving police and the Fire Service is under way to establish the circumstances of the fire. "

An SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.22am on Tuesday Feb 23 to reports of a fire at a property on Cahtay Street Glasgow.

“Four fire appliances were mobilised to the scene where crews extinguished the fire. Scottish Fire and Rescue remains at the scene.”
