Man, 62, fights for his life after driver flees scene of hit and run

A driver is believed to have fled a crash scene on foot after a collision that left a 62-year-old pedestrian in a critical condition in hospital.

The collision was reported at around 11.40pm on Saturday and happened near the Riverside housing association office at the junction on Halton Brook Avenue in Runcorn .

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said officers attended and found that the occupants of a red Fiat Punto involved in the smash had fled on foot and the pedestrian had suffered serious injuries.

The casualty, a 62-year-old man from Runcorn, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

His condition is described as critical but stable.

A 30-year-old man from Warrington and a 31-year-old woman from Runcorn have been arrested in connection with the collision, and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information or dashcam that may assist the investigation.

Sergeant Andrew Dennison, of Cheshire Constabulary ’s serious and complex collision investigation unit, said: "A man sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

"We are determined to establish exactly what happened and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident, which occurred shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday, October 5, or anything else that may help our investigation to get in touch.

"The same goes for anyone who believes they have dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation or information regarding where the red Fiat Punto had been prior to the collision.

"We particularly want to speak to anyone who was in a white hatchback car as well as a female pedestrian who was carrying an umbrella.

"They were both seen in the area at the time of the collision."
