A 59-year-old man died about a week after being shot during a road-rage incident in northwest Indiana.

The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. June 20 near 5th Avenue and Rutledge Street in Gary, officials said.

Terrance Turner Sr. was a passenger in a vehicle that tried to merge into a lane occupied by an SUV, Gary police Lt. Dawn Westerfield said in an email. An argument erupted between both drivers, and someone in the SUV opened fire.

Turner was dropped off by a friend at a hospital with a gunshot wound, Westerfield said.

He was hospitalized until he died 3 p.m. Sunday at Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, according to Westerfield and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Autopsy results for Turner, a resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, remain pending.
