Man, 68, 'impaled' at Lochinvar after roof fall onto garden stake

The man, with the stake still in him, being treated at the scene.

A MAN has been flown to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition after falling from a roof onto a garden stake.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service said they were called to Lochinvar about 10am on Monday.

Paramedics and the helicopter's critical care team stabilised the 68-year-old before transporting him to hospital for further treatment.

An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said the man was taken to hospital with a 50cm length of the stake still in the right side of his chest.

He had been on the roof of the two-storey home painting when he fell.

It followed a busy long weekend for the chopper including a call to a man reportedly burned at Seal Rocks after coming into contact with boiling oil on Saturday night.

The helicopter was ultimately not required to attend that job.

Separately, a motorcyclist, 35, who was flown from Merriwa to Newcastle with serious chest injuries after an earlier accident on Saturday.
