Man, 55, fighting for life after collision in Whitefield

A man is fighting for life in hospital after a collision in Bury last night.

Police were called to the crash on Bury Old Road in Whitefield at around 7.55pm on Friday evening.

A black Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, police said.

The pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, was taken to hospital.

He remains in a critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Police Constable Philip Shaw, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man has been left in a critical condition as a result of this collision and we're working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Our thoughts are very much with the man's family as our enquiries progress and I would urge any witnesses to get in touch as soon as possible.

"Similarly, if you have any CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation, please contact our team."

Anyone with information should call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 2659 of 16/10/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
