Man, 53, robbed and assaulted on street by two people in late night attack

A 53-year-old man has been robbed and assaulted on the street after a late night attack by two people.

Just after midnight on Thursday, July 11, the man was walking alone on Calder Street when he was approached by two people and robbed of a watch and a quantity of cash, and assaulted.

The 53 year-old man was treated at home before later being taken to Hairmyes Hospital by ambulance.

Police Scotland have now launched an investigation to find the culprits. The suspects are believed to be a man and a women. Officers are currently working to obtain further descriptions.

Detective Constable Ruth Whyte at Cambuslang CID said: "We are still trying to establish a motive for this incident  and as such would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity and may have seen this incident take place, or the man and woman involved prior to the incident.

"There will have been people in the area at the time as there is a 24 hour supermarket nearby. Think back, do you remember seeing anything?

"In particular we are appealing to taxi drivers and a young man who we know passed by as the incident was taking place."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cambuslang CID via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 0128  of Thursday 11 July 2019. Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
