Man, 52, dies after being hit by HGV on M8 motorway

A MAN has died after being hit by an HGV on a busy motorway.

Police were initially alerted to a report of a man injured on the M8 eastbound, half a mile east of junction 6, at around 12.40pm on Thursday.

Emergency services attended the incident but a 52-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been made aware.

The male driver of a white Volvo HGV, which was also involved in the incident, was not injured.

Both carriageways of the motorway were closed during the incident but reopened at around 6pm on Thursday.

Police said enquiries were ongoing and have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and to all involved in this incident. I would like to thank the members of the public that stopped and assisted at the scene before emergency services arrived.

"We are continuing to carry out enquiries and I would like to appeal to anyone who has not already spoken to us and may have witnessed the crash, or the vehicles involved shortly before the incident, to please contact us.

"In addition, anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1560 of August 28.
