A 51-year-old man who was taken to hospital after an incident in Kirkby remains in a critical condition, police have said.
Police were called out to Kirkby Row at around 11.25pm on Monday night following reports that two men were "fighting" in the street.
A man, 51, who had suffered head injuries was taken to hospital. Today police have described his condition as "critical but stable."
Locals described distressing scenes on Monday night and one man said that he had reproached himself for not intervening but was concerned he might have been hurt.
Police were at the scene on Tuesday and a forensic tent was put up outside a home on Whitefield Drive.
Yesterday police said that a local man has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the incident.
Neil Badrock, 27, of Kenbury Close, Kirkby, has been charged with attempted murder and remanded into custody.
Police have appealed for information about what happened.
